Spinal Mobilization

Mainly three techniques are applied which are:

Maitland: This is a passive movement technique applied manually to the spine or other joints by the physiotherapist to decrease pain and increase range of movement; 

McKenzie Extensions:  This is sometimes used for pain relief in the case of acute disc lesions. The patient lies on the stomach and does an extension of the back by pushing up on the arms; 

Mulligan: With these techniques a glide is applied by the therapist while the patient actively performs the painful movement in order to clear the movement form pain. The techniques can also be used to relieve stress

Die volgende drie tegnieke word hoofsaaklik toegepas

Maitland: Dit is ‘n passiewe beweging wat die fisioterapeut meganies op die ruggraat en ander gewrigte toepas om pynverligting mee te bring en ook die omvang van beweging te verbeter.

Mackenzie-ekstensieoefeninge: Dit word somtyds gebruik vir pynverligting en vir  akute diskusletsels van die ruggraat. Die pasiënt moet op die maag lê en die rug hol maak deur met die arms op te druk.

Mulligan: Hierdie tegniek behels die toepassing van ‘n glybeweging deur die terapeut terwyl die pasiënt die pynlike beweging doen totdat die beweging uiteindelik pynvry is.
